What is Women in Trades?

Women in Trades is designed to support women entering, progressing through, and completing apprenticeships in industries where women have traditionally been underrepresented. 

As an Australian Apprenticeship Support Service (AASS) Provider, APM offers specialised support to help women build confidence, overcome barriers, and achieve long-term success in their chosen trade. 

We can help you:

  • Access one-on-one mentoring and support 
  • Connect with other women working in trades 
  • Build confidence in the workplace 
  • Access career and further education advice 
  • Connect with support services when needed 
  • Work with employers to promote safe and inclusive workplaces 
  • Explore available financial support and incentives 

Eligibility Requirements 

Women undertaking eligible apprenticeships in priority occupations may be able to access specialised support and financial assistance.  

Eligibility requirements vary depending on your apprenticeship, industry and individual circumstances.

How Women in Trades works

Your pathway to success in a trade career.

1. Start your apprenticeship

Begin an apprenticeship in an eligible trade and connect with APM Apprenticeships for support. 

2. Access mentoring and guidance

Receive one-on-one support, practical advice and access to peer networks. 

3. Build skills and experience

Learn on the job, complete your training, and gain valuable industry experience. 

4. Complete your qualification

Finish your apprenticeship with the skills, confidence and qualifications needed for a rewarding career.

Financial Support for Female Apprentices 

Women undertaking eligible apprenticeships may be able to access a range of Australian Government incentives and financial assistance. 

Australian Apprentice Training Support Payment (AATSP) 

Eligible apprentices in occupations listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List may receive up to $2,500 over two years. 

Payment schedule 

  • Full-time apprentices: $625 at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months 
  • Part-time apprentices: $315 at 6 and 12 months, and $310 at 18 and 24 months 

Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) – Housing Construction Stream 

Eligible apprentices working in housing construction occupations may receive up to: 

  • $10,000 for full-time apprentices 
  • $5,000 for part-time apprentices 

Payment schedule 

  • Full-time: $2,000 at 6, 12, 24 and 36 months, plus on completion 
  • Part-time: $1,000 at the same milestones 

Living Away From Home Allowance (LAFHA) 

If you've moved away from your parent or guardian's home to start your apprenticeship, or you're experiencing homelessness, you may be eligible for financial assistance. 

Current rates 

  • First 12 months: $125.52 per week 
  • Second 12 months: $94.14 per week 
  • Third 12 months: $47.07 per week 

Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans (AASL) 

Flexible loans are available to help cover costs such as: 

  • Tools and equipment 
  • Transport 
  • Living expenses 

Loan details: 

Maximum loan amount (2026-27): $27,048 

Repayment threshold (2026-27): $69,528 annual income
