What is Specialist Support for First Nations participants?

APM is a Specialist Support provider for First Nations participants in Workforce Australia. 

If eligible, your employment consultant will take the time to understand your goals, strengths and circumstances. Together, you'll create a personalised plan to help you find work and access support in your local community.  

Support may include: 

  • Culturally appropriate pre-employment training 
  • Community-based work experience 
  • Workplace trials 
  • Building confidence and job readiness 
  • Meeting local employers 
  • Access to services that support you and your community 

Eligibility Requirements 

You may be able to access Specialist Support if you: 

  • Are a First Nations participant in Workforce Australia 
  • Have been referred to APM Employment Services 
  • Are looking for employment or additional support to become job-ready

1. Meet your employment consultant

We'll get to know you, your goals and any challenges you may be facing on your journey to employment.  

2. Create your personal plan

Together, we'll develop a plan that focuses on your strengths and the support you need to find sustainable employment. 

3. Build skills and explore opportunities

Access training, work experience, workplace trials and connections with local employers. 

4. Start work with ongoing support

Once you're employed, we'll continue supporting you to help you succeed and stay in work.

Your employment consultant will work closely with you to understand your career goals and help address any barriers that may be affecting your job search. 

Support may include confidence building, job searching, resume preparation and interview coaching 

Training and community support 

You may be able to access a range of opportunities designed to help you prepare for work and develop new skills. This may include: 

  • Culturally appropriate training 
  • Workplace trials 
  • Community-based work experience 
  • Health and wellbeing activities 
  • Projects that help you gain skills while supporting your community 

Connecting you with employers 

We'll help you explore employment opportunities and connect with businesses and organisations looking to hire local people. 

Your consultant can also introduce you to employers and discuss opportunities that match your interests and strengths
