Gary and APM New Zealand Transcript
Gary: I had an accident on 25th of the 4th 94. I was driving a truck home from town and I hit a lamppost head on. It's not nice being stuck in a room you know there's very little can you can do when you can't get around that much. You almost go into a state of depression.
James, allied health professional: If you asked me I'd say his quality of life was not great. If you ask Gary, and Gary's such a up person, he would say ‘oh well no it is what it is’.
Gary: Nobody wanted to get me out walking and things like that until 2021 and I came on board with my new crew that I've got now and I can't speak highly enough of them.
James: APM offers a ACC driven contract called Training for Independence which is the program that Gary was on so that me and Amy could go in assess and see what his needs were and in conjunction with the goals that we set with Gary, then work towards those goals on a weekly basis.
Amy: Changes that I have implemented in Gary's life is not driven by me it's driven by Gary. So Gary's a very motivated man that wanted to achieve his goals around walking, mobilising, independence and being out in the community. So I've implemented things based on his goals and what he wanted.
I think until somebody has an injury or their health changes we take a lot of things for granted. I’m actually probably going to get emotional just talking about Gary. It's been such an honour to see, over a year and a half where he is now, and I know they still got a long way to go, but he's done an incredible job.
Gary: At the end of the day I owe everything to APM. Without them I'd have been nothing this is where I am today and I thank them for that, my God you've got no idea on that one.
