Adam on changing lives with employment transcript

Adam: I love connecting with candidates from day one and then supporting them and touching base with them while they're in employment, as well and seeing them improve. It's a massive thrill. So, I think it was more motivational challenges Geoff had, and he stressed because he’d been let go from work. So basically, you just want to identify that, get him into branch as quick as possible so we could support him. I had the one-on-one consulting to be able to work out where he was, have a job plan, or a future plan about his goals, looking at his hobbies and looking at his lifestyle. About how we can kind of put that in with employment opportunities.

Geoff has an intellectual barrier, so he didn't want to work where he had to crunch numbers or read things, or cashier type work. So, we had to look at some stuff where he could use his hands or use his physical attributes and that's what we've done. Geoff is working at South Pacific Laundry. He is doing some production work, some linen sorting. So basically linen comes through in a production line and he sorts it out. He deals with the big linen bags that you see sometimes when you go into hotels, making sure that they're all stacked up and getting ready for dispatch.

It can be, you know, employment assistance, it can be upskilling training, it can be social work appointments, healthcare appointments. So, there's a lot of, you know, things that we can support our candidates with to better ensure that they're having a better life. I still keep in contact with a lot of candidates and candidates parents and things like that, or family members that I've helped, I've built that connection with from five years ago in APM. I still keep in touch and see how they're going and check in and they'll reach out as well when saying, “oh, I've got a sister here or whatnot that wants to be linked up.” But look, it's really rewarding.
