Malaschenko and Ingeus Switzerland transcript

Volodymir Malaschenko, Ukrainian refugee: My name is Volodymir Malaschenko.

I’m from the Ukraine, more specifically the city Kherson.

At first I studied to be a teacher, but I soon realised that the wage was really bad.

I needed to earn a lot more because I had a big family to provide for.

That’s when I decided to start working as a carpenter. I really liked this job.

Micha Weiss, Operations Manager Zurich: Mr. Malaschenko is a typical case of someone who has lost everything at war.

He had to shut down his carpentry which he had founded himself and had to flee the country with his family.

When he arrived in Switzerland, he was cut off from his family and couldn’t find a job because of his language skills, which were pretty bad in the beginning. So nobody wanted him.

So I’m really happy that we could help him with our coaching to not only find a job in a short amount of time, but also that he feels good now and that he also could be reunited with his family.

Volodymir: My coach, Elena is such a lovely person! She helped me so much during all these months, where we worked together. I quickly realised that she got really excited for me in terms of me finding a new job.

Elena Belocerkov, Ingeus Coach: Mr. Malaschenko was a client who I thought would have engaged in a job position in no time.

He is a really skilled person. He showed me his work, which was amazing to see. He was a self-employed carpenter in the Ukraine who built his own business all by himself in the last 15 years.

He is a pretty shy and reserved person which meant that the job interviews were not successful. I had to learn that we can’t just send random applications and hope that someone will recognise Mr Malaschenko’s talent.

The big challenge was to really look for personal discussions with the carpentries and to explain to them what a great talent he is.

Felix Räbsamen, Chef Bau und Holzwerker AG: Mr. Malaschenko has made great progress in the last couple of weeks. The most important task was for him to learn German, so that he understands all the tasks that we give him. And afterwards we started teaching him the Swiss norms and standards.

Our goal for the future is that he can work self-employed again. He will receive his own car and will be able to visit clients on his own and get the work done for them.

Ingeus has helped us a lot. As interface to the authorities, they took care of the work permit and the paperwork associated with refugee status, so that we only had to issue the employment contract.

Volodymir: So yeah, eventually I’m together with my family now and my kids are at a great school. And now my wife and I ae learning German.
