Chibuzor and WCG Services
Life for Chibuzor in Nigeria wasn’t easy.
Working as a logistics clerk, the conditions were tough.
The job involved a lot of heavy lifting, with no breaks, no holidays, just a 12-hour shift every day for only $60 a month.
He needed to escape, and in Canada, he’s found a country he loves, a good job, and a place in society where he can contribute and give back.
But it took determination, help, and support from others to make it happen.
“Thanks to the help of the government and everything, I've been able to find a place to settle down or call my home,” Chibuzor says, and adds,
“But that's the first step. The next step was employment.”
The issue facing someone like Chibuzor is that, when they arrive, they love everything about Canada, but it’s not as easy as they might expect.
Often, their credentials aren’t recognised, and they don’t have any Canadian employment experience.
The team at Peel Region (Ontario Works) was there to support Chibuzor with the tools he needed to get out there and start looking for work, like transportation and a phone.
They also began the process of getting him prepared for work and put him in contact with the people at WCG Services – part of APM Group - who provided training for potential positions, and helped with the listings, as well as connections to employers, interviews and follow-ups.

Manal, an Employment Consultant from Employment Ontario (WCG Services), was immediately impressed with his drive to find work.
“When I met Chibuzor, he was someone who was extremely committed, reliable, hardworking and determined.
“If I was sending him a job lead, he wouldn't wait for the next day. He would right away go and apply for the job.”
It didn’t take long.
Manal noticed a local restaurant was hiring and told them about Chibuzor. He had an on-the-spot interview and was hired almost immediately.
For Chibuzor, it’s more than finding a new job, it’s starting a better life.
“Now I've gotten that Canadian work experience, and I know it will definitely open more doors. They are here to help. WCG is here. Ontario Works is here to help you land your dream job and help you retain that dream job.”

Sandra, Chibuzor’s Case Worker from Peel Region, says it simply. “The goal of the partnership is for the client to become self-sufficient. That's the ultimate goal.”
But it’s more than just self-sufficiency for Chibuzor, it’s giving back to the country that’s helped him.
“Canada has been helpful. So I'm just trying to do my part in repaying, paying my taxes, filing my taxes, and contributing. We just want to help.
“I'm grateful for everything that's happened so far. The support I've gotten, it's been great. Honestly, Canada is a beautiful place, and I would like to call this place home one day.”
