Luis finds life-changing role with support from Ingeus Spain

At 63, Luis Carlos thought his best working years might be behind him.

Born in Pola de Lena, Asturias, he had spent 25 years building a career outside of Gijón, pouring four decades of skill into maintenance work.

But when the job ended, the months went by with no calls, no offers, and no clear path forward.

"I was quite desperate," he shares.

Finding work at his age felt almost out of reach, and hope was starting to slip away.

Then Luis, joined the InsertAstur program run by Ingeus Spain, part of APM Group.

That is where he met Lydia, an employment advisor with Ingeus, who saw something in him right away.

"The first thing I remember about Luis was his attitude," Lydia says.

"He arrived full of drive and with a clear goal, which was finding a job."

Together, they got to work.

Lydia helped Luis reshape his resume so it truly reflected the depth of his career.

He also took a computer course that opened up new ways of searching and applying for jobs.

"It helped me a lot on a professional level," Luis says.

"They helped me build a better resume, and besides that, a computer course that turned out to be very useful."

There were tough moments along the way, but the bond between them made the harder days easier.

"I get along very well with Lydia," Luis says.

"She's given me a hard time every now and then, but it was always in a friendly way."

Behind the scenes, the team was already thinking about where Luis might shine.

A quick chat between colleagues sparked the perfect match.

"How Luis arrived is a bit funny," says Abraham, the employer who welcomed him.

"It happened through a chance conversation with Irene, one of the colleagues, who told me, 'I have the solution to all your problems.' And well, as if by magic, Luis appeared."

For Abraham, taking on someone with strong maintenance experience was a gift.

"Having someone like Luis, who has 40 years of experience in maintenance, makes your life so much easier because he's already been through almost everything."

Just two months later, Luis was offered a permanent contract.

"It brought me so much joy and hope to say, 'Well, I truly hope this is my last company,'" Luis says.

Today, Luis is back doing what he loves, valued for the years of skill he brings, and settled in a role he hopes will carry him through to retirement.

His message to others is simple and full of heart.

"To the people who are or were in my situation, I would tell them not to lose hope. Above all, look for help and, of course, make sure to share that help."
